wow, what a fantastic show!

well good gracious what a fabulous time I had in Maastricht .. this is a lovely quilt show, and I had a great time there .. the driving was long especially through Belgium… having got the ferry from Dover to Dunkirk… but this is a very good show …. hardly any Brits which is a shame … I don’t think there was a British quilt in the competitions even … though I might be wrong ..next year the show is thur 19th – sun 22 October 2017 so put it in your diary and get visiting …. the competition theme is ‘Speed’ next year so think of entering a quilt …. I was one of the judges this year along with Mary Palmer from Cork in Ireland and Hilde von Shaardenburg from Hilversum in Holland. It was very hard work but such fun …. working with the others was really interesting and independently we agreed on most quilts and a really good discussion on those that we differed on …. I am planning to teach there next year so hopefully see you there

I had a fabulous space for my solo show.. still waiting for various people to send me photos which I will share later and one of my ‘not invisible’ ladies quilts is now residing in Germany , up near the Danish border…

please visit www.textile-festivals.com for more information about this great place

Maastricht

Phew!….just finished the 27th and final quilt for my solo show which is part of the      (EOQC) European Open Quilt Championships, held in Maastricht on 20-23 October 2016… it is their 20th anniversary.. and I am one of the invited guest collections to be shown there…

I have several mini series of pieces and am excited by the final set … totally different for me, I am trying to work with the landscape …. I have tried before but ended up with ‘pretty’ pictures which is not what I wanted to achieve…. this time I have made three large quilts titled ‘A Walk Through Owslebury’, this is the village that I have lived in for five years now and love it here….  I think I am pleased with them , but  won’t really know until I see them hanging n the exhibition… I will have had a week not looking at them and will see them with fresh eyes when I view the exhibition ….

This event is excellent and from my point of view, I am driving to Maastricht because I decided I couldnt drag 4 huge suitcases through Schipol onto a train and then find the conference centre … so, I have a parking space there and the hotel is on the same campus as the exhbition… should be totally stress free ….

And , Ada Honders, who is the organiser, has a team of people who hang the quilts too …. so, I just have a few sleeves to stitch and then I am finished ….

to find out more about the event please visit www.oeqc.eu

If anyone reading this is coming to the show, do please come by and say hello, I will be at the exhibition for all four days

Success in Birmingham

Well we did it!

Room6 had a really successful show called ‘6 shades of Grey’ at ‘Fabric, Embroidery and Stitch’ last week at the NEC lots of lovely visitors, thank you for popping by… and, we have a second venue for the show…. not confirmed yet but it looks as though the work will be shown at the gallery at ArtVanGo! no dates but somewhen in the summer I believe…

The ‘People and Places’ exhibition with Kim Thittichai and myself, was really well received too and thank you all for visiting Kim and I there ….Kim had created some wonderful surfaces with her pieces from pebbles and shells picked up on her travels, a really lovely body of work to look at during my days sitting demonstrating …… my ‘Men at Work’ quilts will be joining my ladies from ‘6 Shades of Grey’ and another dozen or so new quilts in October at the Open European Quilt Championships in  Maastricht in October ..

Kim and I are hoping to exhibit again together, maybe in 2018 with a brand new body of work, watch this space ..it is much more fun when there is more than one of you …although we both have a lot to do between now and then!

Next for me…..

The Prague Patchwork  Meeting next week  1-3 April sees an exhibition called ‘Ambition’ from ArtQuiltFusion, a European group to which I belong … my work  will be part of this show, but sadly, I won’t be able to be there, this exhibition was in Alsace in September and will travel to Denmark in August, finishing its run in Maastricht in October as well.

Most of May will see me in Stroud in Gloucestershire, U.K. I belong to Studio21 and we have our exhibition ‘The Sewing Machine Project’ showing in the Lansdown Gallery as part of the Stroud International Textiles Festival

June/July is the end of year at Eastleigh College andour show will be different this year … we have level 3 City and Guilds Embroidery as the only pure textiles course showing. But, we have the end of the first year of our new HNC/HND Contemporary Art Practice course. I am thrilled with the course and the work that the students are creating… it is much broader based than the Foundation Degree Stitched Textiles was, with opportunities in photography, video, sculpture, print as well as the stitched textiles … do come and visit the end of year show which will run from 30 June (evening opening) 1st and 2nd July. please do come and see what we e been up to this year… we offer a level 3 course in Art, Design and Media too as  pre – cursor to the HNC, it didnt run this year so hopefully next year will different.

Just to say the city and guilds Patchwork and Creative sketchbooks is back inthe college prospectus this year so if you are interested . come and talk to us or just sign up!

August, The Festival of Quilts, I will be on QIA24 stand as usual with Lynn Onions, where we will be demonstrating …. and hopefully i will be bringing my free standing work from Romsey Abbey to the show…. i am also teaching a Masterclass called ‘Stitching from Life’ on the Wednesday which should be fun ….

Golly end of August and Room6 will be taking part in Hampshire  again at the Granary Studio , so please visit us there, tea cofee and lots of cake as usual … as well as a second hand bookshop

September, back to Eastleigh College and Granary studios classes start up again, so off we go again …

October , my solo show in Maastricht  and another year older!

November, hopefully Harrogate Knitting and Stitching Show and the Artists in Action gallery if they want me, and then the run in to Christmas… phew, thats 2016 done then, feel quite tired at the thought…

hope to see you somewhere along the way….

Taking Stock

Well all the autumn exhibitions are now finished.. phew …. my house is full of work now ….

So, busy putting everything back in its place and getting ready to start on the planning for next years’ exhibitions … I have four bodies of work to create ….the first is for the group ByDesign of which I am a member and we are just starting on our new project, no further information at the moment but suffice to say we have created our starting points and we are beginning to work on the first pieces.

Studio21 also has an exhibition at the Stroud International Textile festival in Stroud, U.K. next May but of course the work is finished because we have just exhibited at the first venue in South Hill Park, Bracknell, U.K.

I have two exhibitions at the ICHF show ‘Fabric, Embroidery and Stitch’ in the NEC, Birmingham in March next year … one as part of a brand new group called Room 6 which will be our first major exhibition, very exciting… and the other a two man show with Kim Thittichai, equally exciting … just beginning to think about these two exhibitions and start planning….

Finally , I have a solo show at OEPC, Maastricht next October. so lots of work ahead of me for that exhibition. Another group I am a member of is ArtQuiltFusion, which is a group made up of artists from all the countries in European Union, will also be exhibiting in Maastricht, but again , it is the exhibition we showed in Alsace during September this year, so no further work to create and I will have lots of company over there…..

I am enjoying this lull before the storm!  Slowly getting my mind into gear… this is an exciting time, because I love to plan a totally new body of work and I aim for the whole year to be designed and made from these initial thoughts ….
