The washing up was a bit of a challenge though with automatic taps in the loos until the lovely Jane Bolsover found me a catering sink .. she really is an amazing mover and shaker…glasgow 01glasgow 02

Success in Birmingham

Well we did it!

Room6 had a really successful show called ‘6 shades of Grey’ at ‘Fabric, Embroidery and Stitch’ last week at the NEC lots of lovely visitors, thank you for popping by… and, we have a second venue for the show…. not confirmed yet but it looks as though the work will be shown at the gallery at ArtVanGo! no dates but somewhen in the summer I believe…

The ‘People and Places’ exhibition with Kim Thittichai and myself, was really well received too and thank you all for visiting Kim and I there ….Kim had created some wonderful surfaces with her pieces from pebbles and shells picked up on her travels, a really lovely body of work to look at during my days sitting demonstrating …… my ‘Men at Work’ quilts will be joining my ladies from ‘6 Shades of Grey’ and another dozen or so new quilts in October at the Open European Quilt Championships in  Maastricht in October ..

Kim and I are hoping to exhibit again together, maybe in 2018 with a brand new body of work, watch this space ..it is much more fun when there is more than one of you …although we both have a lot to do between now and then!

Next for me…..

The Prague Patchwork  Meeting next week  1-3 April sees an exhibition called ‘Ambition’ from ArtQuiltFusion, a European group to which I belong … my work  will be part of this show, but sadly, I won’t be able to be there, this exhibition was in Alsace in September and will travel to Denmark in August, finishing its run in Maastricht in October as well.

Most of May will see me in Stroud in Gloucestershire, U.K. I belong to Studio21 and we have our exhibition ‘The Sewing Machine Project’ showing in the Lansdown Gallery as part of the Stroud International Textiles Festival

June/July is the end of year at Eastleigh College andour show will be different this year … we have level 3 City and Guilds Embroidery as the only pure textiles course showing. But, we have the end of the first year of our new HNC/HND Contemporary Art Practice course. I am thrilled with the course and the work that the students are creating… it is much broader based than the Foundation Degree Stitched Textiles was, with opportunities in photography, video, sculpture, print as well as the stitched textiles … do come and visit the end of year show which will run from 30 June (evening opening) 1st and 2nd July. please do come and see what we e been up to this year… we offer a level 3 course in Art, Design and Media too as  pre – cursor to the HNC, it didnt run this year so hopefully next year will different.

Just to say the city and guilds Patchwork and Creative sketchbooks is back inthe college prospectus this year so if you are interested . come and talk to us or just sign up!

August, The Festival of Quilts, I will be on QIA24 stand as usual with Lynn Onions, where we will be demonstrating …. and hopefully i will be bringing my free standing work from Romsey Abbey to the show…. i am also teaching a Masterclass called ‘Stitching from Life’ on the Wednesday which should be fun ….

Golly end of August and Room6 will be taking part in Hampshire  again at the Granary Studio , so please visit us there, tea cofee and lots of cake as usual … as well as a second hand bookshop

September, back to Eastleigh College and Granary studios classes start up again, so off we go again …

October , my solo show in Maastricht  and another year older!

November, hopefully Harrogate Knitting and Stitching Show and the Artists in Action gallery if they want me, and then the run in to Christmas… phew, thats 2016 done then, feel quite tired at the thought…

hope to see you somewhere along the way….

Almost Ready to go

The ICHF show Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch will be open on Thursday until Sunday, 17-20 March, to find out more please visit

http://www.fashionembroidery.co.uk

It is a fabulous show in Hall 12 of the NEC. All the usual suspects will be there including ArtVanGo and Oliver Twists… My favourite clothes stand with the gorgeous UWE always able to sell me something new to wear.. lots of exhibitions, lots of shops so bring your money and cards!

All the stitching is finished, just got the leaflets and statements to update and print, battens to cut and drill …. clothes are washed , packing started

Here are a few images to whet your appetite… can’t show the whole pieces because they wouldn’t be new to the exhibitions I have this year.

The first pic is of a group of five titled ‘Not Invisible’, it is said that when we get grey haired and over 60 we become invisible ….. not in my world we don’t! These will be shown as part of the Room6  exhibition titled ‘6 Shades of Grey’ so please do pop in and say hello to whoever is stewarding that day

The second pic shows a group of five again this time titled ‘Men at Work’ and the third pic is titled ‘The Building of New York’ and is drawn from the iconic photograph of workmen sitting on a  girder high up above the New York skyline. this one is a monster, over 10feet wide. These pieces will be shown in the People and Places gallery, where Kim Thittichai and I will be showing our new work and demonstrating too. Please pop by and say hello

hope to see you there

and lots of images being created …. ready to put it all together and start stitching!

Rum’s Eg Exhibition

Phew, a very successful Open Studios is finished, and all the bunting is packed away until next year

No time to rest on my laurels though ….. tomorrow I will be setting up my two man show called ‘Stitched – A Point of Departure’  with Hilary Marshall at the Rum’s Eg gallery in Romsey…will post some pics when it’s done. The exhibition opens on Tuesday and is there until the end of October!

Another exhibition is linked to this one called ‘Stitched’ this is Hilary and I together with 23 Graduates of the Foundation Degree in Stitched Textiles that I ran at Eastleigh College… the brief was to fill Romsey Abbey with stitch! Partly to celebrate St. Ethelfleeda’s festival, it will be there for the whole of October… exciting times …. I am making a fairly major installation although it is not finished yet I am quite excited about it …. there have been some hiccups along the way … not least of which my friend Andy made some frames before I had finished the panels and yes… you guessed it, they shrank during the dyeing and stitching processes… First lesson of dyeing and stitching is to measure after the work is done!!! Hey Ho ….

Will post a flyer when Rum’s Eg send one to me …. watch this space

Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch, ICHF Show at the NEC

With all the activity getting the Granary Studio up and running I havent had time to report back on the great Fashion, Embroidery and Stitch Show which is presented by ICHF ( International Craft and Hobbies Fair) every year on the third weekend in March at the NEC in Birmingham. It is held at the same time as the Hobbycrafts Show and the Sewing for Pleasure Show. This makes for a very interesting and interested audience and even in our part of this event there is great variety with college graduate displays, and catwalk shows with the exuberance of the music floating across the show three times each day. The sister show is staged a week later at the Excel in  London.
It is the first show I attend in the year, and the Pic below shows my stand and the visit of the lovely Kevin Mead from Art Van Go at the end of the day when the coaches have left and the show becomes quieter. this is when we get the chance to catch up with old friends. the photo is courtesy of the Gorgeous Kim Thittichai with whom I will be presenting something special at this show next year, watch this space…
